Education Services

Continuing education is not only one of the most important benefits a Paraoptometric Section member can take part in, but it is also one of the most valued according to the 2008 Member Survey. CE is not only important to paraoptometrics of all certification levels, but is also important to new staff or non-certified staff. Most CE is designed to keep optometric staff abreast of the latest developments in patient care, new products in industry, general knowledge of eye health and career advancement. The Section provides many opportunities to obtain CE for members and non-members alike.

Typcially, continuing education provided by the AOA Paraoptometric Section is only approved for the AOA Commission on Paraoptometric Certification Program; however, many courses provided during Optometry's Meeting® are submitted to the American Board of Opticianry, National Contact Lens Examiners, or Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology for CE credentialing.

The self-assessment exam includes 350 multiple choice questions on information covered in the Self Study Course textbook, and may be completed in a convenient timeframe. After completion, you can mail the self-assessment examination to the Paraoptometric Section office in St. Louis for grading. If you answer 249 questions correctly, you will receive 12 hours of continuing education credit and a certificate of achievement. They are a great resource for training or studying.
