Vision Awareness Program sponsored by Idaho Optometric Physicians
2020. The vision year. Idaho Optometric Physicians (IOP) is proud to partner with the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council to bring the Vision Awareness Program to girl scouts.
Here are a few questions and answers about the program.
Q. W hat is the Vision Awareness Program?
A. The program is intended for Girl Scouts to fulfill certain requirements within three different categories allowing each individual to Discover, Connect, and Take Action about vision and optometry. Upon completion each girl scout will earn a patch. Click on the button GIRL SCOUTS to review the requirements.
Q. What is the role of the troop leader or girl scout parent?
A. Review the program requirements and activity sheets. Contact a participating optometrist from the list below to schedule an office tour or invite the doctor to one of your meetings. It will be important to let the doctor know the age of your troop for educational purposes. You will need to let the doctor know which requirement you'd like your troop to complete as part of the program.
Q. What is the role of a participating doctor?
A. Participating doctors are included in the list below for a troop leader or parent to contact to schedule a tour of the doctor's office or to attend a troop meeting. The doctor and leader/parent will choose the option that will work best. The doctor will educate kids based on their age group about the importance of eye exams and eye protection, eye health, and the field of optometry.
Q. How many girls are in a troop and how long will an office tour last?
A. Troops vary in size and can have as few as five girls and as many as 20. Participating doctors will let the troop know how many people can be on a tour at one time, how long the tour will last, and what time of day is best for the event. The decision will be dicussed when the the troop leader/parent contacts the participating doctor.
Q. How does a girl scout receive a Vision Awareness patch?
A. IOP will provide Vision Awareness patches to participating doctors to give to troop leaders at the end of the office tour or troop meeting. If the troop completes the program requirements without an optometrist, the troop can purchase the patch on their own through the Girl Scout Council.
